​​Located in the heart of downtown Champaign, Illinois, this vivacious space combines many vital aspects of the community. Passion Pit, a 15,000 square foot meeting place, allows for the user to experience the different offerings of the local community by transforming the open space into an active farmers market. This market is comprised of a variety of permanent and transient stalls that allows for vendors and consumers to engage in a social environment that promotes fresh and healthy lifestyles. At night, this space quickly transforms into a social gathering space for the entire community. Events including live bands, movie nights, community theater, Bingo, and much more give this multi-purpose space a wide variety of use. Upon entering, the user is greeted with a cavernous space that allows for them to explore the offerings of the community, allowing local merchants to sell local goods and products. Stalls can be rented on a yearly contract, and are not bound to any specific form of trade. This allows for vendors selling a multitude of products including clothes, local fresh produce, and other goods. The buildings light frame structure is capped by a glass roof, allowing the natural light to enter the common space. The materials allow for each vending space to have originality, allowing each vendor to put their own twist on the generic stand. On the interior, the stalls line the perimeter of the building, allowing the user to freely access everything. The facade of the building encompasses windows that highlight what the space has to offer, connecting the people outdoors to the space inside.
